Victim Support

Police support services

South Australia Police recognise that the physical and emotional impact of crime, including violence, can be devastating and that the victim and their family may need specialised help and support.

SAPOL's Victim Contact Officers or Victim Liaison Officers give advice and information about support and counselling services and make referrals to other services if appropriate.

For help simply contact your local police station.

Other support services

South Australia Police works in partnership with a range of other service providers who may be of assistance to victims of sexual assault and other crimes.

Am I a victim of crime?

You may be a victim of a crime if you have suffered harm as a result of an offence being committed against you.

  • Harm includes injury, damage or loss.
  • Injury includes any physical or mental injury, including pregnancy as a result of the offence, mental shock and nervous shock.

A person is considered to be a victim regardless of whether the perpetrator of the crime is identified, apprehended, prosecuted or convicted, and regardless of any family relationship between the perpetrator and the victim.

Family or dependents of the immediate victim, or persons who have suffered some harm in intervening to help victims in distress or prevent victimisation occurring or continuing may also be victims.
