Police encourage all victims of domestic violence to contact police on 000 in an emergency or on 131444 for police attendance.

Each metropolitan police area operates a Child and Family Investigations Unit (CFIU) where police specifically investigate reports of child abuse and domestic violence.

Other Help

The following agencies can also help victims of Domestic Violence:

Domestic Violence Crisis Service (DVS) Phone 1300 782 200

DVCS is the placement agency for women and children seeking emergency (shelter) accommodation during business hours. DVCS also provide telephone counselling and short-term face-to-face counselling, and referral for victims to police , legal services, housing and financial services in times of domestic violence-related crisis.

Crisis Care provide crisis counselling and emergency accommodation placement outside normal business hours.

Both VIP services offer an intervention program for men who are perpetrators of domestic violence. They are a collaborative venture between the AGD, Courts, Corrections and SAPOL, and run counseling and assessment for men, and offer support and counseling to the partner and children of those men.

Regional Domestic Violence Services

These are the "women's shelters" located throughout the metropolitan area. They provide supported accommodation, outreach support and counselling to victims and children, information and referral, advocacy and self-help groups.
